Switch and Data sites cover North America's population densities and give customers a single provider to locate their content and networks in the leading end user markets.

Switch and Data's customers have deployed infrastructure in as many as 32 of our sites or as few as one. They use us as a single solution provider to interconnect their networks across multiple locations or to connect or backup their network in a particular traffic exchange market or hard to reach city.

Switch and Data operates sites in North America's premium communications "carrier hotels" such as 60 Hudson St. or 111 8th Ave. in New York, or the Infomart in Dallas, 151 Front St. in Toronto, or the Westin Building in Seattle. These buildings are the most in demand locations to efficiently interconnect communications networks. As we open new data centers in our high demand markets, we connect the new sites back to our existing sites in the carrier hotels to give our new space the power and connectivity to power our customers' networks into the future.

The Best Markets Need the Best Solutions

Here are some of the ways companies use our broad footprint of site locations to improve their businesses:

  • Application Service Providers: The former Switch and Data, now Equinix's sites are located next to North America's key population densities and in key communications hub markets. ASPs use these sites to store and distribute their latency sensitive digital media content to broadband networks which carry the traffic to local homes and businesses. Switch and Data also operate the fastest growing Internet exchanges in the U.S.'s top international Internet traffic markets. Customers that operate bandwidth intensive websites for social networking, rich digital content, and business software applications use our PAIX® Internet exchanges in New York and Palo Alto to peer their traffic with international networks to accelerate performance and reduce transit expense.

  • Managed Service Providers: MSPs such as Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) or Domain Name System (DNS) Service Providers find that the broad geographic coverage of Switch and Data site locations makes us the perfect partner to distribute services widely across the Internet. For example, a leading DNS Service Provider has chosen six of our sites as the best locations to distribute its services to improve the performance and resiliency of the entire Internet.

  • Network Service Providers: The broad footprint of Switch and Data's site locations makes us the logical choice for NSPs looking to grow their revenues by expanding their network presence and services across North America. Any one of our sites is an ideal environment for communications companies to market their services to a critical mass of customers. Using Switch and Data as a single provider to roll out multiple network Points of Presence (PoPs) gives a service provider the network deployment speed and scale it needs to meet its revenue plan.
